Not every attack is personal
Let's talk a bit more about the story behind the 'you're mad at your dad' tee design. A simple phrase that captures a very specific moment in life. The moment when someone comes at you with way too much energy and it has absolutely nothing to do with you.
We have all been there. You are minding your own business, having a perfectly normal day, and suddenly someone snaps. No warning. Just attitude. And you are standing there thinking, what did I do?
Probably nothing. That is the whole point.
It shows up everywhere. Your roommate snaps at you about something you did not do. A coworker dumps their bad mood on you. Someone in line acts like you personally ruined their entire day. Your family member just got shit on by a bird and now the whole vibe is off. It is confusing because it feels personal, but most of the time it is not.
They are not mad at you. They are mad at their morning, their job, their kids, their bookie... You are just the nearest available human. Wrong place. Right time. Classic mad at your dad energy.
Once you really understand that, something shifts. Instead of reacting or defending yourself or letting it ruin your mood, you pause. You take a second and think, this is not about me.
If you are bold, you can even say it. You are mad at your dad. It throws people off immediately, like their brain did not prepare for that response. But even if you never say it out loud, just knowing it is enough. You stop absorbing their nonsense.
Because the alternative is carrying around energy that was never yours to begin with, and that is exhausting. It sticks to you if you let it. It follows you into the rest of your day. And for what? Something that had nothing to do with you in the first place.
So next time someone comes at you sideways for no reason, just remember what is actually going on and walk away with sass.
